Film about Living with Memory Loss Phinney Neighborhood Association Out of the desire be advocates, members of The Gathering Place program who are living with memory loss, chose to create this short documentary, Living with Memory Loss: In Our Own Words. Memory loss currently carries immense stigma, fear and shame, so they wanted to share some more holistic narratives about their experiences. It is powerful to hear the voices and wisdom of people living with memory loss and we hope that their fiercely open-hearted, humorous and hopeful messages have a positive impact. This film is freely available for anyone to watch and share widely in their communities. Technical Notes
Technical notes:
Conditions: Warmup and wrapup recording sessions were removed. When audience members spoke without using a microphone and they were inaudible, those sections were removed to make the recording shorter for the listener. The wireless speakers picked up occasional buzzing sounds from the handheld microphone. Buzzing sounds were edited out when they didn't overlap voices. Otherwise, sound quality is good. Tools and techniques: The recording was made by connecting one of two wireless PA speaker auxilary output to a Zoom H6 recorder input. The audio WAV file was edited with Audacity software on a laptop running Ubuntu 16.04 and converted to MP3 22khz before uploading to Weebly host.

Technical Notes
Technical notes:
Conditions: Warmup and wrapup recording sessions were removed. The recording in between is intact. Audio was boosted by the PA speakers, but some reverb resulted. Resolution is low-end (320x240) and is distracting in full screen mode. An LED camera light helped in closeups but a bright back-light caused subject to be under exposed. Fan noise was recorded from projector. Tools and techniques: The video was recorded on a ZTE ZMAX 2 (Z958) smartphone running under Android 5.1 with Open Camera software. Camera was assisted with an external microphone and LED light. The video was edited with OpenShot and FFmpeg software running under Ubuntu 16.04. on a laptop computer. Low resolution (320x240) was used to accommodate long recording time and keep file size manageable. Direct link: YouTube Playlist Lessons Learned: Try backlight scene mode to improve visibility under backlight condition. Not supported on all cameras.

Shingles are wicked bad. Latest vaccine gives better protection.
The old shot, Zostavax (from Merck), made with the live shingles virus, has been recommended for those 60 and older since its approval more than a decade ago. Given in a single dose, it reduces the risk of developing shingles by 51 percent, says the CDC. The new vaccine, Shingrix (from GlaxoSmithKline), without live virus, targets folks 50 and up, and in clinical trials posted a 98 percent effective rate for one year and 85 percent for two years, the company says. It is given in two doses. Updated 11-25-2017

King County Government > Communicable diseases, epidemiology and immunization >> Fact sheets, data and blogs >>> Hepatitis A Hepatitis A virus (HAV) infects the liver. It is primarily acquired via the fecal-oral route, either through person-to-person contact or by ingestion of fecally-contaminated food or water. Before routine childhood vaccination against hepatitis A, infection was common among children. Today, adults account for the majority of cases. Most cases occur through consumption of contaminated food during travel. Hepatitis A has also been linked to sexual activity among men who have sex with men when oral contact with stool-contaminated skin occurs. Illicit drug users are also at higher risk of hepatitis A. Unlike hepatitis B or C, HAV does not cause chronic infection or carriage. HAV is more common in developing countries where sanitation is poor and vaccine is not available.
